Standard Grains
-
Hamsters must intake a mix of standard grains which are most easily found and purchased at your local pet shop labeled as hamster pellets. When purchasing these grains, be sure to buy organic grains that have the 'high quality' stamp as these will drastically aid your hamster with its digestion.
Fruits and Vegetables
-
Fruits and vegetables are a natural extension of a hamster's diet and should be viewed as a daily food source rather than a treat. Along with the standard grains, fruits and vegetables should be fed daily and in liberal quantities. Although any vegetable or fruit will do, apples, grapes, lettuce, carrots and kiwiw are a must as they supply essential amino acids to your hamsters.
Hard Boiled Eggs
-
Hard boiled eggs are a treat for hamsters, though only one hard boiled egg should be given to your hamster within a week. Hard boiled eggs provide a very entertaining food source for your hamsters; leave the shell on for the hamsters to crack open and dig inside.
Yeast
-
You should feed your hamster daily supplements of yeast as it is extremely effective at reducing stress and aids your hamster's nervous system. The yeast can also be turned into a treat by placing it into a plastic tubing which will challenge your hamster to get to it. Adding twists for your hamster to get its treats often serves as a physical simulator which is extremely helpful to lower your hamster's stress levels.
