How to Turn Your Computer Into a Hamster Cage

If you have an old computer and a hamster, you have all the items needed to make the coolest custom hamster cage. Computer housing cases provide the perfect environment for hamsters because they has fan vents to allow circulation as well as a sturdy metal frame. They also have easy sliding pieces to open and clean the cage. With a few alterations, you can convert your computer to a hamster cage at home.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer tower
  • Screwdriver
  • Power drill
  • Plexiglass sheet
  • Table saw
  • Plexiglass blade
  • Wood shavings

Instructions

    • 1

      Unscrew the screws on the back of the computer tower. Use a screwdriver or power drill. Slide the side panel off the computer tower.

      Unscrew all bolts connecting the internal components such as motherboard, CD-ROM drive and hard drive. Use a screwdriver or power drill. Remove all internal components of the computer.

      Measure the opening of the side panel. The roof of the hamster cage will be placed there.

      Cut a piece of Plexiglass to the dimensions of the opening. Use a table saw with a Plexiglass blade.

      Place the computer tower on the ground with the open space facing up. Place wood shavings on the bottom of the computer tower.

      Place the hamster in the cage. Slide the Plexiglass into the slots of the side cover. Your hamster now has a new cage to explore.
