Things You'll Need
- 3-foot Plexiglass sheet
- Table saw
- Plexiglass blade
- Silicone Caulk
- Thin wire mesh
- Sharp scissors
Instructions
Measure the dimensions of your Plexiglass cage. A single hamster needs a cage at least 5 inches in height. For example, use a 12-inch by 6-inch by 6-inch hamster cage for a single hamster.
Cut three 6-inch by 12-inch Plexiglass pieces using a table saw. Use a blade specially made for cutting Plexiglass. Use the three pieces as the front, back and bottom pieces. Cut two 6-inch by 6-inch Plexiglass pieces. Use the two pieces as the side pieces.
Place the bottom piece flat next to the wall. Place the front piece on one edge of the bottom piece. Rest the front piece on the wall. That makes a 90-degree angle. Squeeze silicon caulk between the inside edges of the front and bottom pieces. Let the caulk dry for 2 hours. Repeat on the opposite edge to affix the back piece.
Place the bottom piece flat next to the wall. Place one of the side pieces on the edge of the bottom piece. Rest the side piece on the wall. That makes a 90-degree angle. Squeeze silicon caulk between the inside edges of the side and bottom pieces. Let the caulk dry for 2 hours. Repeat on the opposite edge to affix the other side piece.
Cut a thin wire mesh to the dimensions of 8-inches by 14-inches. Use sharp scissors. Bend the edges of the wire mesh one-inch. That makes the mesh ceiling of the hamster cage. Place the wire mesh on top of the cage.
