How to Make Your Hamster Smell Better

Hamsters are a type of rodent which come in breeds including Syrian, Chinese and several dwarf varieties. These furry creatures live about two to three years and are nocturnal. Hamsters have pouches on either side of their mouths allowing them to stuff food into their cheeks without eating it. Caring for a hamster includes properly feeding it and giving it enough room to run around. Making your hamster smell better will be the result of having a cleaner cage. The cleaner the cage, the cleaner the hamster.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the hamster cage daily for wet or soiled areas. Clean these patches out daily. These patches can lead to an overwhelming ammonia odor, if they are not cared for promptly.

    • 2

Clean the cage with soap and water once a week. Wipe down the cage with a mild soap and rinse it with water. Let it dry completely before putting new bedding in. If you find that you are not able to get some of the urine stains off, mix together some hot water and vinegar. Pour the solution into the cage and let it sit for a while, before cleaning it with soap and water.

    • 3

Dispose of all the old bedding and replace it with new bedding once a week.

    • 4

Clean accessories like wheels and food bowls at least once a month with mild soap and hot water.
