Djungarian Dwarf Hamster
-
This variation is most commonly found in pet stores and is sometimes confused with the Campbell's variety of hamsters, which is a completely different subspecies. Sources say they have a humorous personality. These hamsters occasionally come with red eyes. Their colors vary from dark brown/gray to sapphire, which is a blue/gray type, to pearl, which is white with colored hairs.
Russian White Dwarf Hamster
-
This type is similar to the Djungarian dwarf hamster but varies in some ways. Russian White Dwarfs have three stripes, compared with one on Djungarians. They have one on the back and one on each side. These hamsters also have a blockier body and their colors change in the winter from gray to an immaculate white, called pearl.
Roborovski Dwarf Hamster
-
The Roborovski dwarf hamster is the smallest of dwarf hamsters, although they have the longest legs. Their color is gray with a white underbelly and have no dorsal stripe. This variation is very sociable, which is why it's recommended to buy them in pairs. Robos, as they are commonly referred to, also spend much of their time grooming themselves.
Chinese Dwarf Hamster
-
Chinese dwarfs have the longest tail of all of the dwarf types, which is why they are often referred to as rat or mouse hamsters. This hamster is harder to find in pet stores, because they are not easily bred. Chinese dwarfs are longer and thinner than the other dwarf hamsters. They come in black with brown lines with one black back stripe and gray/white with one black back stripe. The best part about this variation, though, is that they will cling to your finger with all four paws.
