Nesting
-
When a dwarf hamster is pregnant she will begin preparing for the birth of her babies by creating a nest. She will seek out wood chips, paper and other materials in her cage to build an elaborate nest. This is one of the most common behavior changes seen in dwarf hamsters. It is a natural instinctive reaction that results from pregnancy hormones.
Fatigue
-
If you notice that your dwarf hamster constantly sleeps or lacks energy, she is either sick or pregnant. You may not notice signs of fatigue until she is already halfway through her pregnancy. Her body works hard to nourish her unborn babies, so she will rest more often as her pregnancy progresses.
Increased Appetite
-
During pregnancy, your dwarf hamster's demand for food will increase. Her appetite increases because her hormones stimulate hunger. Provide additional food and water for her during this time.
Distended Abdomen
-
When your dwarf hamster is pregnant, you should notice that she develops a large distended abdomen. This is more noticeable when she stands on her hind legs, but as the days pass her stomach will become more lumpy. It will become quite obvious that she is pregnant. As her abdomen grows, she may become much slower and take her time eating and sleeping as she prepares for the birth of her babies.

What Are Signs of Dwarf Hamster Pregnancy?
The signs of a dwarf hamster pregnancy are the same as those for standard-sized hamsters. The only difference in pregnancy between the two is the total gestation period for dwarf hamsters is shorter. Dwarf hamsters are pregnant for 16 to 30 days. The main symptom dwarf hamsters experience is a distended abdomen after the mother has been pregnant for about five days. Other signs include behavior changes, increased appetite and fatigue.
