Finding a Small Animal Vet
Check with your veterinarian who treats your other animals. If you already have an established veterinarian for your dog or cat, call him and ask if he also treats small animals. If the doctor you typically see does not treat hamsters, there may be another in the building who does.
Ask for a referral if there are no doctors at your vet's office who can help you. Your veterinarian should be able to refer you to a knowledgeable and trustworthy doctor who is qualified to care for your hamster.
Check an online message board that posts hamster related topics. Search the threads or conversations regarding veterinarian care. If there are no current posts regarding veterinarian referrals for your area, start one. Title your post clearly to get the best responses. Try, "Looking for a veterinarian qualified to treat my hamster in my city, my state," as your heading. Including your city and state will solicit responses from only those who are familiar with your area.
Use an online veterinarian directory such as yext.com. At this site you can enter your zip code to access many veterinarians in your area. This site has the added benefit of being able to click on each listing and read what types of services they offer. Look for a vet who offers small animal, exotics or rodent care services.
