How to Feed a Teddy Bear Hamster

Teddy bear hamsters are also known as Syrian hamsters. Teddy bear hamsters may get their names from their golden brown, fuzzy appearance. Teddy bear hamsters are popular pets and provide enjoyable entertainment for many people. Keep teddy bear hamsters happy and healthy in a small habitat with proper care. Feed them a varied diet consisting of hamster food, fresh fruits and vegetables. Include a few special hamster treats, too, if desired.

      Fill the water bottle with fresh water every day and always have it available for the hamster.

      Place a food dish in the habitat and fill it daily with 1 to 2 tbsp. of hamster food in the morning or the evening. Feed the hamster at the same time every day. Discard the previous day's food if any remains.

      Provide fresh vegetables every day, and fruits as a treat from time to time. Hamsters enjoy fresh grass, broccoli, celery, parsley, spinach and small chunks of carrots. Offer fruits such as apples, bananas, grapes, melon and pears.

      Feed hamsters crunchy cat treats and pieces of dog biscuits. Hamsters also enjoy hard-boiled eggs; however, give eggs only occasionally. Give hamsters oats, whole wheat bread, and pumpkin seeds as a special treat.

      Avoid feeding hamsters lettuce, corn, potatoes, beans, chocolate and other processed foods.
