Things You'll Need
- A tube or jar
- Hamster treats
Instructions
Wash your hands to remove any smells that might distract the hamster.
Place your hand in the cage and let the hamster get used to your scent for a few minutes.
If your hamster is new to you, hold a jar or tube in the cage. It may climb right in. If it doesn't, give the hamster a nudge to get it inside.
Remove the dwarf hamster from the tube or jar and place it in your hand.
Gently pet and feed the hamster treats so that it becomes used to you.
Repeat these steps every day for several weeks. At that point, you may be able to pick it up directly out of the cage. Pick it up by the back of the neck or hold your hand out flat for it to crawl on.
