  1. How to Wash a Hamster Cage

    • 1

Dump hamster droppings and old filings into a garbage bag. Dispose of garbage bag in an outside dumpster.

    • 2

Add a few drops of natural or organic soap cleanser. Fill hamster cage with water. Let stand for 5 minutes. Take wash cloth and scrub the entire cage.

    • 3

Dump dirty, soapy water down the drain. Take a washcloth or paper towel and wipe out excess water.

    • 4

Set hamster cage outside or on a table to air-dry for a 10 minutes. This will remove the dampness that will cause the cedar filings or newspaper to stick.

    • 5

Place newspaper on the bottom of the dry hamster cage. Add a layer of cedar filings on top of the newspaper. Replace the hamster and food bowl. Repeat every three to seven days.
