How to Have Fun With a Hamster

Hamsters are one of the most docile pets a child can own. There are thousands of ways to play with a hamster while maintaining the hamster's safety. Hamsters are seldom vicious and thrive on attention. A happy hamster lives longer and play is an important way to keep your hamster happy.

Instructions

    • 1

Get your hamster accustomed to being held. Some hamsters are skittish at first and may try to jump from your hands so hold them carefully.

    • 2

Design an exercise course for your hamster with cardboard tubes. Be sure there isn't any glue stuck to the tubes, as hamsters will chew on the tubes and the glue could be toxic.

    • 3

Buy a small padded pouch to take your hamster with you as you ride your bike. Find a transparent plastic purse or small carryall so you can keep an eye on the hamster as you travel.

    • 4

Let your hamster ride in small cars and toy trains. Add a little food to the car so that the hamster will sit still while riding--just don't go too fast.

    • 5

Dress your hamster in loose-fitting doll clothes. Shirts and dresses are easily slipped around the hamster and still leave room for his legs.

    • 6

Photograph your hamster playing in doll houses and with action figures. Hamsters are naturally curious, so set up the figures, sit back and watch your hamster introduce itself to your action figures.
