How to walk your hamster

Hamsters are easy to take care of and make for great beginning pets, but they do need exercise. It is very important that a pet hamster receives daily exercise. The exercise wheel that is included in most hamster care kits is adequate for a hamster's exercise needs. Occasionally, though, walking a hamster can be done.

First, if you are going to walk a hamster, be sure there are no avenues of escape. Trying to find and then catch a hamster is an unnecessary situation.

Collect the following two items: 1) a hamster collar 2) a hamster leash. Both of these supplies can be found at a pet store that carries lots of pet supplies for all different types of animals. Walgreen̵7;s would probably not carry a hamster collar or leash. There are also small animal harnesses. Take care to use these on hamsters that are quite tame. Some hamsters may try to bite you if you place this type of bind on them.

Set out on your walk. Be sure not to overtax a hamster. Short walks are best. Also be very careful not to pull or push the hamster with the leash. This could hurt this small animal that is not used to such an exercise. Small injuries in this situation have been known to happen.
