How to Clean Up a Hamster After Diarrhea

If your hamster is suffering from diarrhea, the need to keep him clean comes second to stopping the diarrhea and getting him healthy. Diarrhea is a severe health problem for your hamster. It can cause dehydration and even death if a vet doesn't quickly determine and treat the cause. Never bathe a hamster covered in diarrhea in water -- getting him wet can make him even sicker.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove your hamster from his cage. Hold him gently in one hand and use a dry washcloth to remove as much of the diarrhea from the fur as possible. Allow the fur to dry naturally if it is wet.

    • 2

Use a small animal comb or brush to brush out your hamster's fur and remove remaining dried feces from the coat.

    • 3

Place a flat-bottom bowl containing several inches of hamster sand bath in your hamster's living enclosure and allow him to roll in it as he desires.
