Things You'll Need
- Small glass or plastic jar
- Hamster litter
- Hamster waste
Instructions
Remove the lid from a small jar. Make sure your hamster can comfortably fit in and out of the opening and has room to move around inside. Hamsters like to chew, so a glass jar is a better option if this is the case with your pet.
Turn the jar on its side. This makes it easier for your hamster to move in and out of the jar, making it more likely that potty training will be successful for your pet.
Cover the bottom side of the jar with hamster litter. If you aren't already using it, special litter for hamsters is available at pet supply stores. Place a layer down, but make sure you don't fill the jar so full that your hamster is unable to get in and use it.
Place a small amount of your hamster's droppings and urine-soaked cage filler in the jar. This shows your hamster what the jar is for. Put your hamster in the jar and allow him to smell around it. Place the litter box in a corner of your hamster's cage so that he is able to find it easily when he needs it.
