How to Make a Stand for a Hamster Wheel

Don't let your hamster get out of shape by not replacing a broken hamster wheel stand. You can replace the stand with a simple wooden stand using small pieces of construction lumber. A hamster wheel stand like this will have a wooden base and will support the wheel by its center with wooden sides so the wheel's flat sides are positioned vertically. The hamster wheel is then able to spin by its center.

Instructions

Measure the width of your hamster wheel and set the fence on the table so it is the width of the wheel plus one-half inch away from the blade. Run your 12-inch board through the table saw so its width equals the distance from the blade to the fence. This is the base to your hamster wheel stand.

Lay your 8-inch board flat and set your wheel on top of the board so it is flat on its side. Position the wheel so it is 1 ½ inches from one end of the board and so the hole for the rod is 2 inches from each 8-inch edge. Drill a hole into the board that is one-sixteenth-inch larger than the rod and one-half-inch deep where the hole for the rod rests over. Repeat this step on the other 8-inch board. These are the sides to your hamster wheel stand.

Insert the rod through the wheel and position the rod's ends in the holes that you drilled in the last step. Position the boards on end so the wheel is off the ground and place the 12-inch board flat between the boards and underneath the wheel. Center the board so its ends are 4 inches away from the edges of the sides. Screw two screws through each side and into the edge of the 12-inch board.
