How to Make a Hamster Wheel Stop Making Noise

Due to high levels of wear, hamster wheels can very quickly start making an annoying squeaking noise. This is made worse by the fact that hamsters will not necessarily sleep when the owner does, so the squeaking can start in the early hours of the morning or in middle of the night. Stopping this annoying noise requires a very quick piece of maintenance whenever the wheel starts to make a sound.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the hamster from the cage and put it somewhere safe. This is not essential, but it may become inquisitive about what is going on.

    • 2

Take the wheel out of the cage. This is not necessary, but can make the job easier depending on where the wheel is located.

    • 3

Pour a little vegetable oil onto the axle system and spin the wheel a few times so it seeps in. Lubricating oil can be used, but if the hamster licks the wheel it can cause illness.

    • 4

Replace the wheel and put the hamster back in the cage.
