1. Separate the hamsters immediately. Place each hamster in a separate cage or enclosure. This will give them time to calm down and reduce the risk of further injury.
2. Check for injuries. If either hamster is injured, take them to the vet immediately.
3. Identify the cause of the fight. Once the hamsters are separated, try to figure out what caused the fight. This could be due to overcrowding, lack of food or water, or a territorial dispute.
4. Make sure the hamsters have enough space. Dwarf hamsters need at least 1 square foot of space per hamster. If they are overcrowded, they may become territorial and fight with each other.
5. Provide plenty of food and water. Make sure the hamsters have access to fresh food and water at all times. If they are hungry or thirsty, they may become aggressive.
6. Remove any objects that could cause conflict. This includes things like toys, food bowls, and water bottles. If there are too many objects in the cage, the hamsters may become stressed and fight with each other.
7. Introduce the hamsters to each other slowly. If you are introducing new hamsters to an existing group, do so slowly and carefully. Start by letting them meet each other for short periods of time in a neutral territory. Gradually increase the length of time they spend together until they are comfortable with each other.
If you are unable to stop your dwarf hamsters from fighting, you may need to rehome one or both of them. This is a difficult decision, but it may be necessary for the safety of the hamsters.
