Do hamsters need a litter box?
Hamsters can be litter trained, but it is not essential. Hamsters naturally use a corner or area of their enclosure to urinate and defecate. Providing them with a litter box can help keep their enclosure clean and reduce odours. To litter train a hamster, place a small litter box filled with hamster-safe litter in the corner of their enclosure where they usually go to the bathroom. You may need to experiment with different types of litter until you find one that your hamster likes. Some hamsters prefer unscented litter, while others may prefer scented litter. You should also avoid litters made from cedar or pine, as these can be harmful to hamsters. Once you have placed the litter box in your hamster's enclosure, they may naturally start using it. If not, you can encourage them to use it by placing some of their soiled bedding in the litter box. You may also need to move the litter box to different locations until you find a spot that your hamster prefers.
