Is the darling lily an endangered species?
The darling lily (Lilium darlingianum) is a rare lily species endemic to the western United States. It is native to the Klamath Mountains of California and southern Oregon. It is currently classified as a vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The main threats to this species are habitat loss due to logging and conversion of land for agriculture and urban development, as well as competition from invasive species. Additionally, its limited geographic distribution makes it vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this species, including habitat restoration and conservation, and ex situ conservation in botanic gardens.
