How many margays are left in the world?

It is difficult to determine the exact number of margays left in the world as they are elusive and inhabit remote areas. However, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the margay is classified as "Near Threatened" due to habitat loss and hunting.

The margay population is estimated to be declining, and it is believed that there may be fewer than 10,000 mature individuals remaining in the wild.
