Things You'll Need
- Jar
- Plastic wrap
- Rubber band
- Wine, champagne or fruit
- Toothpick or fork
Instructions
Pour a glass of wine or champagne. You can also just use moldy fruit in the jar or cider vinegar mixed with water and dish soap.
Cover the jar with plastic wrap and secure it to the jar with a rubber band. Make sure the plastic wrap is tight.
Poke a few holes in the plastic wrap with a toothpick or fork. The fruit flies should be able to get in but have a hard time getting out if not already dead.
Empty the jar after catching your first batch and redo the process. You could also set out several jars in strategic places where your fruit flies congregate if you have a bigger fruit fly problem.
Get garbage cans with tight lids. Always secure your trash in the trash cans with lids that close tightly. That will cut off one source of food and breeding for the fruit flies.
Clean dirty garbage cans, wet lint traps and any containers that hold liquid. This will keep fruit flies from ever gathering in your trash areas.
