Things You'll Need
- Granulated sugar
- Water
- A pot
- Old fruit
Instructions
Get some granulated sugar and water in order to make a nectar for the butterflies. Purchasing sugar is relatively easy to do at you local grocery store.
Measure out 4 times the amount of water than the amount of sugar chosen. For instance if you used 1 cup of sugar, you would use 4 cups of water.
Mix the sugar and water together in a pot and boil the concoction for a few minutes. Be sure to stir it often while boiling to help blend in the sugar.
Remove the solution from heat and let it cool. After the 'nectar' cools you may then use it in your favorite butterfly feeder or make a feeder on your own.
Use old or decaying fruit to attract and feed butterflies. If you have undesired old fruit and vegetables, using them will work as well. Sprinkle them with some water if they are dry, the softest, gushiest fruit and vegetables work the best.
