Instructions

    • 1

Determine the number of hives you need to feed.

    • 2

Consider the weather conditions in your area. Use inside feeders such as pail or baggie feeders or division boards during the winter and outdoor entrance feeders during the summer.

    • 3

Determine the costs associated with each type of feeder. Baggie feeders are inexpensive for a few hives but are a continuous cost. Division board or pail feeders are a one-time cost.

    • 4

Consider the distance involved in transporting syrup to hives. Syrup can be transported in gallon jugs and poured into division board feeders or entrance feeder jars, but baggie feeders will have to be replaced after they're emptied.
