How to Keep Ants Out of Weep Holes

When laying bricks around the base of your home, bricklayers leave small gaps between them. These gaps -- called weep holes -- are strategically placed so that moisture is not trapped between the bricks. Weep holes provide proper ventilation that prevents mold, efflorescence and decay. Although it is unlikely that ants will be able to crawl through these openings, seeing ants anywhere near a weep hole is a very unnerving sight. Get rid of ants using a combination of tactics that will kill them off and ensure they don̵7;t return.

Instructions

Locate the areas near the weep holes where the ants have built their mounds. Ant mounds house hundreds of ants and are the home base for the ant colony. In order to get rid of the ants in your brickwork, you must also kill them near and inside their mounds.

    • 2

Mix a combination of boric acid with sugar, to create an effective ant killing solution. Use 1 cup of boric acid with 1 cup of sugar, and mix the two together to form a paste. This paste is sweet enough that the ants will think it is food, but the boric acid is poisonous to ants.

    • 3

Go back outside and sprinkle the boric acid and sugar mixture around each of the ant mounds. The ants will collect the ̶0;food̶1; and bring it inside the mound, thus eliminating the ant colony.

    • 4

Sprinkle a few tablespoons of the mixture around the weep holes, to ensure any ants going near the holes will pick up the ant killer.
