Instructions
Find a suitable terrarium to use as a cage for your crickets. Almost any size plastic or glass enclosure will work, but it is best to use a smaller cage, since crickets do not need much room to thrive. It will also be easier to observe your insects. Make sure the cage has plenty of ventilation.
Pour a layer of sand over the bottom of the terrarium. The sand should be at least 1/2 inch deep.
Place a bottle cap in one corner of the cage. Fill the cap with water. Plastic soda bottle caps work well. Do not use a cap more than 1/4-inch deep, as this can pose a danger to the crickets.
Soak a cotton ball in water and place this in the cage as well. The crickets will drink from this as well as the bottle cap. It also serves to keep the air in the habitat moist.
Add food to the habitat. Fish food and soft fruit like bananas, melons and berries all make good cricket food.
Place the habitat somewhere with indirect sunlight. The ideal temperature for crickets is between 70 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Change the water and food in the habitat once a day.
