How to Feed an Eastern Fence Lizard

According to Reptile Channel, eastern fence lizards gain their name because they can be seen sitting out in sunny areas, such as a fence, in their native home which lies in the southern portions of the United States. These reptiles can grow anywhere from four to seven inches in length and can be kept in the home as a pet. It is important to feed an eastern fence lizard the proper foods in the proper amounts to ensure that this pet lives a happy, healthy life.

Instructions

    • 1

Offer the eastern fence lizard a fresh bowl of water every day. Water can also be misted on any plants that are in the lizard's aquarium once or twice each day. The lizard will then drink the water droplets from the leaves.

    • 2

Locate a pet store in your area that sells live insects. Eastern fence lizards will consume grasshoppers, crickets, fruit flies and small spiders.

    • 3

Place one larger, or two smaller live insects into the aquarium, three to four times a week. Avoid over-feeding the eastern fence lizard. The lizard will continue to consume whatever food it comes in contact with to the point that it can become seriously ill or die from overeating.

Watch for signs that the eastern fence lizard is being over-fed. The lizard may have a sudden weight gain or it can begin to look sluggish and ill. If this is the case, the lizard's diet should be more restricted.
