How to Glue Plexiglas Together to Make a Lizard Cage

Some species of lizard can grow up to 8 feet long and weigh as much as 150 pounds. That's a lot of lizard! To keep up with your lizard's growing needs, you'll need to put together a larger cage from time to time. This takes some effort and patience, but you will be rewarded with a healthier, happier lizard!

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape or yard stick
  • Plexiglass sheets
  • Saw
  • Drill &bits

      Take the measuring tape or yard stick and measure your lizard from nose to tail.

      Using the measurements taken, multiply that number by 3 and to find the square footage your lizard will need to be comfortable.

      Cut the Plexiglas to appropriate size for your lizard, you will need 6 pieces. The shape of the cage you want should also be considered when cutting your plexiglas.

      Take the silicon aquarium glue and apply it to the bottom piece of Plexiglas on one edge according to the directions on the glue tube.

      Take a side piece of plexiglas and place it on the edge of the bottom piece where you placed the glue. Hold it steady and firm for several minutes while the glue takes hold.

      Glue the other three sides the way you did in Step 5, making sure you hold the plexiglas firmly in place until the glue hardens with each side.

      Run a thin strip of silicon aquarium glue on the inside of each corner of the cage from top to bottom then smooth it out with your finger, making sure you push it into the corners as deep as it will go.

      On the bottom around the edges of the cage, put silicon where the side pieces and bottom piece meet. Smooth it out with your finger.

      Drill five to 10 small holes on each side of the cage to allow air flow.

      Let the cage cure for 24 hours, according to the directions on the glue tube, before allowing your lizard to use the cage.
