Instructions
Watch the bearded dragons as you approach the cage at the store. A healthy bearded dragon will watch your approach with curiosity and will have bright, alert eyes.
Handle the bearded dragon and check him thoroughly for any sores or external parasites. Also check for any deformities, keeping in mind that a missing toe or tip of the tail is not considered a serious deformity.
Check the eyes for pus or any other gunk that may be embedded. The eyes should be clear.
Make sure the lizard is at least six weeks old.
Check for signs of respiratory infection: gaping, noisy breathing, and mucus discharge from the nose and mouth. Such an infection is usually caused by low temperatures, high humidity or both, and the dragon most likely will need to see a vet.
