Things You'll Need
- Female bearded dragon lizard
- Substrate of sand and soil
- Incubator
- Strong light
Instructions
Determine whether your female dragon mated with a male. Egg laying will normally occur from four to five weeks after mating. If your bearded dragons are mating, please be sure to provide adequate calcium supplements to ensure proper health. Producing eggs puts quite a strain on the female dragon and she'll need the extra calcium.
Provide a separate container substrate of sand and soil mixture for your dragon to dig around in and find a proper place to bury her eggs. Your dragon will not lay the eggs unless the substrate will hold its shape.
Occasionally a female dragon will produce faux eggs, typically when no mating has occurred. These eggs will collapse and should be removed immediately for the dragon's health.
Place new eggs in an incubator and make sure the temperature never goes below 80 degrees. Within 75 days you should have some new arrivals; however, it may take longer, so don't worry.
Shine a light behind the egg to see inside. Try to use a light that emits low heat energy and make sure you don't rotate the egg. Doing so can dislodge the embryo, killing it. When looking at the egg with a light behind it, you should see a shape with veins.
