How to Keep Humidity in a Lizard Tank

Lizards live in all regions of the world ̵1; including wet, highly humid environments such as the rain forest ̵1; so if you take one as a pet, you need to replicate the standard living conditions for the safety of the animal. Humid environments require upkeep to stay moist and suitable for your lizard. Place your hand in the tank at least once a day to ensure the air feels thick, moist and slightly warm. Even a day without the proper climate can cause damage to your pet.

Examine the sides of the lizard tank for any holes where the air from the inside of the tank can escape. Patch up the holes with silicone caulk. The less airflow in the tank, the better chance the habitat has to accrue a healthy level of humidity.

Choose habitat bedding that is soft and retains moisture. For example, birch bark and moss bedding will stay moist, which helps increase the humidity in the reptile environment.

    • 3

Set a wide, flat container for water in the cage. Fill it with water so the reptiles can drink from it while it influences the humidity levels of the habitat. Change the water regularly to keep it fresh.

Spray inside the tank with a water bottle once every three days. The water should be lukewarm and the nozzle should be on the misting option. The mist keeps everything in the tank nice and humid for your reptile.
