How to Bath Iguanas

Iguanas are a type of lizard that enjoy eating plants and vegetables. In addition to feeding and housing your pet iguana, you must learn how to give it a bath. Iguanas won't clean themselves, and since they aren't out in nature where they can rub themselves up against some tree bark to get clean, you will have to bathe them. The Green Iguana Society recommends giving your iguana a bath at least once a week, although more often is ideal.

Instructions

    • 1

Run the faucet in the bathtub and adjust the temperature so that it reaches between 85 and 90 degrees. If you are not sure of the temperature, you can buy a thermometer for babies that you can use in a bathtub to test the temperature.

    • 2

Fill the tub with the water until it reaches a level that is equal with your iguana's chest.

    • 3

Put your iguana in the bathtub and allow it to swim around for 30 to 60 minutes. Don't add any toys to the bathtub, and don't leave the iguana unattended. Soaking your iguana this way is a great way to give your iguana a bath.

    • 4

Pick up your iguana and dry it off with a soft towel. Place it back in its cage.

    • 5

Drain the bathtub. Disinfect the bathtub immediately after giving the iguana a bath in it.
