How to Cut a Water Dragon's Claws

Handling a water dragon can be difficult and quite painful if the animal's claws are too sharp. If you plan to interact with your water dragon outside of its enclosure frequently, learning how to clip its claws is crucial.

  • Corn starch

      Have someone hold the water dragon securely. Pick up one foot and grasp one toe gently but securely in your fingers.

      Place the nail clipper at the very tip of the nail and gently clip the point, avoiding the vein in the thickened area. Repeat this procedure until every nail is clipped.

      Apply corn starch to stop the bleeding If you accidentally cut the vein. Compress the powder onto the nail with clean hands or gloves until the bleeding is under control.
