How to Make Housing for Feeder Mice

Feeder mice are the ordinary white, black, gray and tan mice available in many pet stores. Some people keep these mice as pets, while others, as the name suggests, feed them to snakes and other carnivorous pets. Both pet mouse owners and reptile feeders alike will find feeder mice easy, as well as inexpensive, to house and to raise. No matter what purpose the mice are being kept for, however, proper housing is needed to keep them both safe and happy.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the aquarium with mild soap and rinse with a solution of mild bleach and water solution. Allow the aquarium to dry.

    • 2

Fill the bottom of the aquarium with pine chips. Provide enough bedding for the mice to burrow and to nest, as well as to soak up waste.

    • 3

Secure a thin wire or metal water bottle hanger in one corner. The bottom of the hanger should be low enough to the floor of the cage to provide easy access to the water bottle nozzle. Fill the water bottle and place it in the hanger.

    • 4

Place the cover over the top of the aquarium. Make certain that there are no gaps over or around the water bottle hanger.

    • 5

Place exercise wheel, food dish and other toys inside the aquarium, as desired.
