Things You'll Need
- Cage
- Recycled paper bedding
- Wheel
- Food bowl
- Rodent water bottle
- Mouse food
- Treats
- Scraps of clean, unscented toilet paper or tissues
Instructions
Open the cage and remove any accessories--wheel, food bowl, water bottle--that might have come with it. If the cage didn't come with these supplies, be sure the ones you bought are washed and clean.
Cover the cage floor with about 1 inch deep of recycled paper bedding. Aspen and cedar shavings can trigger allergies in mice.
Add the wheel to the cage. Be sure it's positioned in a spot where your mouse will have easy access to it--and for your pet's protection, use a plastic wheel with a solid running area, as the traditional metal ones carry the risk that it will catch his tail, according to the website The Fun Mouse.
Place the food bowl and water bottle in the cage. You can put them anywhere, but don't put the water bottle directly over the food. Fill the bowl with food, and sprinkle some treats on top. Fill the water bottle with clean water, and tap the metal ball in the spout to ensure its working properly.
Add some clean, unscented toilet paper or tissues as bedding for your mouse. Your mouse will tear, fluff and carry this paper around until she's happy with her nest.
