How do moles have their young?

Giving Birth

- The gestation period for a mole is about 42 days. When the babies are born, they weigh only a few grams and are about the size of a human fingernail.

- Unlike other mammals like humans, moles are born completely blind and hairless.

- Female moles give birth below ground, in the dark recesses of their burrow systems. They prepare comfortable nests from soft plants. Moles are prolific reproducers, having between two to five litters per year.

- As the babies grow and develop, the female mole diligently cares and protects them until they gain enough independence to fend for themselves.
