When two rabbits have babies should you separate the father from babies?

It's highly recommended to separate the father rabbit from the babies. Here's why:

* Aggression: Male rabbits can become aggressive towards their young, especially if they're stressed or feel threatened. This can lead to serious injury or even death of the kits.

* Mating: Male rabbits can re-mate with the female shortly after she gives birth, leading to another pregnancy. This can be detrimental to the female's health and can make it difficult for her to properly care for her existing litter.

* Nursing: Male rabbits are not equipped to nurse the kits and their presence can interfere with the mother's nursing ability.

* Space: Having the male rabbit around can limit the space available for the kits and the mother, especially if the cage is small.

Best Practice:

* Separate the male rabbit from the female immediately after she gives birth.

* Keep them in separate cages or enclosures.

* Provide the mother with a spacious and quiet nesting box where she can care for her kits undisturbed.

Exceptions:

* Some rabbit breeders keep the father rabbit with the mother and kits if they have a large and well-equipped enclosure and are confident in the male's temperament. However, this is not generally recommended for pet rabbits.

Consult a veterinarian: If you have any concerns about your rabbit's behavior or the health of the kits, it's always best to consult with a veterinarian experienced with rabbits.
