Here's why:
* Predation and Disease: Wild rabbits face constant threats from predators (foxes, hawks, coyotes, etc.) and are more susceptible to diseases.
* Harsh Environments: Wild rabbits live in harsh conditions with limited food and water availability, and extreme weather can also shorten their lifespan.
* Lifespan in the Wild: The average lifespan of a wild rabbit is around 1-2 years. Some may live longer, but it's rare.
* Lifespan in Captivity: House rabbits, when properly cared for, can live for 8-12 years, with some reaching 10-15 years.
So, while wild bunnies face a lot of challenges, they don't necessarily live longer than house bunnies. House rabbits, with proper care, have a much greater chance of living longer and healthier lives.
