Does a female rabbit build its own nest?

Female rabbits, also called does, don't build nests in the traditional sense like birds. Instead, they create a "nest" called a "form" for their kits.

Here's how they do it:

* Find a suitable location: This is typically a sheltered spot with good drainage like a burrow, dense vegetation, or under a bush.

* Digging a shallow depression: They use their paws and teeth to dig a shallow depression in the ground.

* Lining with fur: The doe plucks fur from her belly and uses it to create a soft, warm lining for the nest.

* Giving birth: The doe will give birth to her kits directly in this form.

Important note: Domestic rabbits are usually provided with a nesting box by their owners. These boxes are typically filled with soft materials like shredded paper or hay to create a safe and comfortable space for the kits.
