How big do jack rabbits grow compared to other rabbits?

Jackrabbits are actually not rabbits at all, but rather hares. They belong to the same family as rabbits, but have some key differences, including their size.

While regular rabbits typically weigh between 2 and 5 pounds, jackrabbits can grow much larger.

* Black-tailed jackrabbits, the most common type, can weigh up to 8 pounds, with a body length of 18 to 21 inches.

* White-tailed jackrabbits are even larger, reaching up to 10 pounds, with a body length of 20 to 24 inches.

So, while jackrabbits are not the *largest* members of the hare family (that title belongs to the European brown hare, which can weigh over 20 pounds), they are significantly bigger than most rabbits.
