DIY Outside Rabbit Cages on a Budget

Building an outdoor rabbit cage doesn't have to be an expensive project. In fact, an inexpensive cage for outside can be built easily and in a short amount of time. Build your own outdoor rabbit cage on a budget using four pieces of treated lumber and wire mesh. Treated lumber is made to be used outdoors and is cut to standard lumber dimensions. A cage like this will be large enough to hold two to three rabbits.

  • 4 treated pine boards, 2-by-4-by-36 inches

Instructions

    • 1

Dig four 12-inch-deep holes spaced 36 inches apart using your post hole digger. You have a square outline with the four holes.

    • 2

Insert each board in the holes so 24 inches of each board is above the ground. Fill any remaining space in the holes using the dirt that was removed in the last step. Pack the dirt down by stepping on it. Your mesh sheets will be secured to these boards. These are the posts for the budget cage.

Position mesh sheets against each pair of boards so they are flush with the edges and tops of the boards. Pound eight staples through each sheet and into the boards to secure them.
