How to Make a Rabbit Maze

As a pet, rabbits possess an aptitude for learning and displaying certain behaviors, such as learning tricks, litter training and expressing affection with trusted humans. Just like other intelligent animals, rabbits require stimulation. This usually involves play, but if you don't have time for a daily play session, you can also build your rabbit a maze. Since wild rabbits live in labyrinthine dens, domestic rabbits naturally enjoy exploring twisty mazes, especially if there's a treat at the end.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of your rabbit, from nose to tail tip and add 3 inches. This is how long each part of the maze must be. For instance, if your rabbit measure 10 inches long, each maze tunnel must be at least 13 inches long.

    • 2

Measure across the widest part of your rabbit's haunches and add 2 inches. This is how wide the maze tunnels must be. For instance, if your rabbit measures 5 inches at its widest point, the maze tunnels must be 7 inches wide.

    • 3

Cut a cardboard square 5 times as large as your rabbit is long, or 65 inches square, in this case.

    • 4

Draw straight lines on the cardboard square with a ruler and pencil. Keep the tunnels as wide and long as your measurements dictate. If you add dead ends, draw a little square chamber at the dead end about 5 inches larger than the tunnel width, or 18 inches wide, in this case.

    • 5

Cut strips of cardboard about 7 inches wide (too tall for the rabbit to hop over) and hot glue them along your pencil lines. Glue the cardboard pieces together at the corners, too. Don't forget to add an entrance and an exit.

Leave the top of the maze open so you can watch your rabbit use the maze. Put a bowl of veggies at the exit and set your rabbit down in one part of the maze. Watch how long it takes her to get to the veggies.
