How to Make a Rabbit Water Feeder

Giving your rabbit access to fresh water and plenty of food is essential to its health and well-being. In addition to feeding it fresh fruits and vegetables, dried rabbit food can help to provide your pet with nutrients. Water is important for your rabbit as well -- if your rabbit does not get enough water, it may suffer from bladder stones. To make sure your pet rabbit gets enough food and fresh water, consider making your own automatic rabbit feeder and water dish.

Instructions

  1. Automatic Rabbit Feeder

    • 1

Rinse out a plastic 20-oz. bottle and fill it with your rabbit's dry food. Secure the lid back on the bottle.

    • 2

Hang the bottle upside down on the outside of the rabbit's cage. Push the neck of the bottle through the mesh, and secure the bottle to the cage with wire.

    • 3

Position a shallow food dish under the mouth of the bottle and remove the cap. The dry food will spill out of the bottle and into the food dish. As the food spills out, it will form a pile that will cover the mouth of the bottle and prevent more from spilling out. As your rabbit eats, the pile will get smaller and more food will spill out of the bottle.

    Automatic Rabbit Water Bowl

    • 4

Rinse out a plastic half-gallon jug and cut a hole in the side of it near the bottom using a pair of heavy-duty scissors. The hole should be about 1 inch in diameter, either round or square, and it should sit no higher than a half inch from the bottom of the jug.

    • 5

Place the jug inside a flat-bottomed water dish with raised edges. The dish should be large enough to accommodate the jug and still have room for water to pool.

    • 6

Remove the cap from the jug and fill it with water. As you fill the jug, water will spill out into the water bowl until it is full.

    • 7

Poke a hole through the center of the cap using a small nail and put it back on the jug. The hole will allow air to get into the jug, which will force fresh water out of the hole at the bottom as the water bowl empties.
