Things You'll Need
- Welded wire or chicken wire
- Tin snips
- Bailing wire
- Pliers
- 4 fence posts
- Post hole driver
Instructions
Cut a piece of welded wire 36 by 36 inches square with your tin snips. This piece constitutes the floor of the cage. Cut another piece 36 by 36 inches square. This piece is the roof.
Cut four pieces at 17 by 30 inches. These four pieces are the walls of the cage.
Cut a 6-by-6-inch square out of one of the walls of the cage. This is the door.
Reattach the door to the wall with bailing wire and pliers. Wire one side of the door to one side of the door opening. Make three small rings of wire for hinges.
Attach two latches to the opposite side of the door. Bend the end of the latches around the welded wire of the wall.
Bend the outside 3 inches of the floor of the cage up at a 90-degree angle. Put the walls on the inside of the raised edges.
Wire the edges to the walls. Tie a piece of wire every 4 inches.
Tie a piece of bailing wire every 4 inches up the corners of the walls.
Put the top on the cage and wire it to the walls, with a piece of bailing wire every 4 inches, all the way around the perimeter of the roof.
Pound the four fence posts into the ground in a 30-by-30-inch square. Leave 4 feet of post above the surface of the ground.
Measure the distance from one post to the next and move them by hand if the square is off by a few inches.
Wire each corner of the cage to a post. Use a piece of wire every four inches to ensure the weight of the rabbit is supported by the wire. This leaves you with an rabbit cage that is elevated off the ground away from predators.
