How to Neutralize Bunny Pee

Harsh cleaning chemicals can harm your pet rabbit. Instead, use an acidic, natural cleaner to neutralize the rabbit's alkaline urine. White vinegar readily cleans bunny pee, whether it is a recent mess or a hardened deposit. Many rabbit cages are equipped with removable bottom trays to facilitate cleaning. If your cage does not have a removable bottom, encourage your rabbit to use a litter box placed directly inside the cage. Clean the tray or litter box daily to help your bunny stay healthy.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the rabbit in another cage or an enclosed area before cleaning its cage. Remove all bedding materials and toys before cleaning the entire cage. Discard dirty bedding.

    • 2

Pour white vinegar into a clean spray bottle. Using a spray bottle that has a "stream" setting on the nozzle facilitates cleaning of larger areas, such as the bottom of a cage.

    • 3

Apply two to three squirts of white vinegar to areas with urine to spot clean the cage, rather than cleaning the entire cage. Wait two to three minutes for the vinegar to neutralize the urine. Wipe up the area with a paper towel.

    • 4

Drench the bottom of the cage with white vinegar. Allow tough stains to soak overnight.

    • 5

Scrub difficult urine stains with a wire brush and add more vinegar, as needed.

    • 6

Rinse the cage thoroughly with water and allow it to dry before adding fresh bedding.
