How to Calm a Bunny Down

A rabbit often makes people think of shy and timid animals with meek dispositions. Although many rabbits have this type of personality, others may display aggression. If you have an aggressive or excitable rabbit, calming it down will require careful handling. By using the proper calming techniques, you can soothe and comfort your bunny when it feels scared or grumpy. You can also encourage positive behaviors in a pet rabbit.

Instructions

    • 1

Stroke the bunny's head on the top near the base of the ears. Keep your fingers at the top of the bunny's head so the bunny cannot nip you.

    • 2

Cover the bunny's eyes with your hand for a fast and effective means of calming a scared or excited bunny.

    • 3

Speak softly and soothingly to the bunny while you stroke its head or cover its eyes.

    • 4

Slowly remove your hand from the bunny's eyes, but continue to stroke the bunny's fur and talk soothingly to the bunny. Try stroking the back of the bunny's neck and its shoulders also as you pet it.

    • 5

Place a hand beneath the bunny's body and pick it up gently after the bunny appears to have calmed somewhat. Support the bunny's hind legs with your other hand and move the bunny close to your body to make it feel secure.

    • 6

Sit down with the bunny on your lap, placing your hands around the bunny to calm it and prevent it from hopping off your lap.

    • 7

Continue stroking the bunny's head and talking softly to the bunny.
