How to Build a Cage for Mini Rabbits

A cage for mini rabbits can be as simple as a chicken wire box or as detailed as a multilevel cage where rabbits have different areas to play, feed and move about. Whatever style you choose, the basic design and materials are the same. Before you begin, decide how many mini rabbits you will be keeping in the cage. Generally one mini rabbit will fit comfortably in a 24 by 24 inch cage.

Instructions

    • 1

Use your wire cutters to cut a 24 by 24 inch piece from the 1 inch by 1/2 inch 14-gauge woven wire.

This will be the floor of your cage.

Cut five 24 by 24 inch squares of chicken wire for the top and sides.

    • 2

Connect the squares together at each edge using two or three hog rings.

Tighten the rings, using the hog ring pliers. Select one side to be the door and attach hog rings to one edge, and your latch to the other.

    • 3

Cut a small hole for your feeder tray, in the bottom edge of one of the sides.

Measure the size of your feeder tray to ensure it will fit into the hole. Wedge it in firmly.

    • 4

Fold two sheets of newspaper and sticky tape them at the edges. Lay these at the bottom of the cage and cut to fit. Remove and replace when soiled.
