How to Cut Rabbit Claws

Taking care of a pet rabbit is relatively simple; they do not require too much space, and are docile animals. With a gentle nature, simple feeding habits and ease of care, they are perfect for children. Just like all animals, rabbit's nails grow and need to be trimmed on a regular basis. With a little preparation, cutting the nails to an appropriate length can be completed within several minutes and with a minimum of difficulty.

Sit on the ground and hold the rabbit in a stable position. With the bunny close to the chest, use one hand to hold up a leg and reveal the nails; this leaves the other hand free to use the nail clippers.

Cut each nail with nail clippers according to the desired length, but no further than the quick. The quick is the portion inside the nail close to the paw where blood flows; if it is cut, bleeding will occur. To avoid cutting past the quick, make sure to have a good source of light available.

Trim each nail in the same manner. Inspect the work and make sure that there are no broken or cracked nails leftover that could cause a health hazard to the rabbit.
