Easy to Build Rabbit Cages

Rabbits are popular pets, but sometimes housing them can be difficult, awkward and costly. Inexpensive cages can be built that will house rabbits safely and securely. The cages can be designed in almost any size and shape desired.

  1. Materials

    • Safe, sturdy rabbit cages can be built from prefabricated cubes sold at home centers and discount stores as shelving. These can be connected with plastic zip ties to form a rabbit cage quickly and inexpensively.

    Floor

    • The bottom of the cage, as well as any shelves, should be covered with wood or linoleum, as the wires are spaced too far apart for a rabbit to be comfortable walking, sitting or sleeping on them.

    Extras

    • Cages can be built to be multi-storied, with a simple plank added to serve as a ramp for the rabbit to move between levels. Litter box, toys and a comfy sleeping area are easy to add to any cage, small or large, as a finishing touch.
