How to Protect Electrical Cords From Rabbits

Rabbits are simple to house-train. It's impossible, however, to stop one of their problematic behaviors: chewing. Rabbits must chew to wear down their teeth, and they are very likely to chew anything not rabbit-proofed. Sometimes the chewing results in only annoyance to the rabbits' owner, such as finding a book with a gnawed cover. In the case of electrical cord chewing, though, the habit is dangerous to the rabbit, creates a risk of fire and, if nothing else, renders an appliance useless. Fortunately, rabbit-proofing electrical cords is fairly simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut lengths of plastic tubing, cable protectors or cable wrap for all accessible electrical cords and wires in the places your rabbits have access. Include rooms you let them into only when you are home. Rabbits easily get into all sorts of problems when your back is turned even for a few minutes.

    • 2

Slit the pieces of plastic tubing, cable protectors or cable wrap lengthwise. The cable wrap may not need to be slit to place it over the cords and wires.

    • 3

Push the plastic tubing, cable protectors or cable wrap over the electrical cords and wires.
