Things You'll Need
- 14-gauge woven wire roll, 1-by-1-inch squares
- 16-gauge woven wire roll, 1/2-by-1/2-inch squares
- Measuring tape
- Wire snips
- Wire connector rings
- Pliers
- 3 trigger snaps, 1/2-inch diameter
Instructions
Lay the 14-gauge roll of wire on the floor and measure a 132-inch long by 24-inch tall section. Use wire snips to cut out the section and trim away any sharp ends. This long section will form the sides of the rectangular-shaped hutch.
Unroll the 16-gauge wire and cut out two 36-inch-by-30-inch pieces. One piece will form the top of the cage and one will be used as the bottom of the hutch.
Set the long section of wire on a work table and make a mark 36 inches from the end. Bend the wire at a 90-degree angle at the mark, and measure 30 inches down from the bend.
Fold the second bend at another 90-degree angle, making a third bend in the wire 36 inches away from the second bed. These four folds will transform the flat piece of wire into a rectangular-shaped hutch.
Bring the free ends of the hutch walls together and connect them with four wire connector rings. Space the rings evenly along the length of the wire and squeeze the rings together with the pliers.
Place one 16-gauge wire piece on top of the hutch walls and attach it with two rings along each side. This forms the bottom of the hutch.
Invert the hutch so the open side is on top and connect the final piece of 16-gauge along one of the 30-inch sides. This allows you to lift and lower the final section like a lid to make caring for the rabbit easier.
Put the lid down and place one trigger snap on each free side to keep it closed.
